How do we pool our precious resources to build a more sustainable and resilient community?

Sustainable Heights Network

FutureHeights is a convening member of the Sustainable Heights Network. Sustainable Heights Network’s primary goal is to pool information on local sustainability and make it readily available to the residents of Cleveland Heights and University Heights, Ohio. SHN publishes a weekly eNews, calendar, Facebook, periodically hosts community networking events, and uses the Heights Observer as a regular platform for getting the word out about environmental efforts to the community. SHN is an all-volunteer effort and FutureHeights serves as its fiscal agent. Be sure to visit the Sustainable Heights Open Green Map, (an interactive online map where anyone can chart natural, cultural, and green living sites in our community for a local, and global, audience) co-sponsored by FutureHeights.

Growing Heights

FutureHeights supports residents who want to share their knowledge and expertise. GrowingHeights, originally The Heights Community Garden Network, was convened through a partnership with the Sustainable Heights Network to help and support people interested in community gardening in Cleveland Heights and University Heights. It has expanded its mission to advocate for additonal public greenspace in the Heights area. Check out the group’s website to get involved in a greenspace near you. FutureHeights serves as the fiscal agent for GrowingHeights.

Montford Community Garden

Encouraging and enabling residents to improve their neighborhoods adheres to FutureHeights’s values. The Montford Community Garden Association developed from garden enthusiasts who saw a newly vacant lot, product of a recent demolition, as an opportunity to get the community together.

FutureHeights supports this community initiative by acting as the fiscal agent and providing technical expertise and grant writing assistance, resulting in a 2013 Project Orange Thumb Grant from Fiskars. Check out the group’s Facebook page for more information on how you can get involved. Not interested in getting your hands dirty?
