HeightsShops

Did you know there are 750-800 businesses in Cleveland Heights (not including home-based businesses), 90% of which are locally owned? Locally owned businesses are good for community. They create jobs, promote economic stability, offer diverse goods and services, and retain our community’s identity.

HeightsShops is citizen support for a strong local economy and locally-owned, independent businesses, and our unique and historic commercial districts.
 
Best of the Heights is an annual public opinion survey is conducted from June through September identifies the Best of the Heights, honoring local independent businesses and their contribution to the quality of life in Cleveland Heights and, as of 2009, University Heights.
 
Shop Local is designed to bring public awareness to the economic and livability benefits of spending a dollar at a local independent business v. a chain store. Additionally, advertising in the Heights Observer newspaper offers local businesses an important way to reach their customers.
 
Moving Forward
In 2010, FutureHeights was instrumental in the formation of the Heights Independent Business Alliance (HIBA), a grassroots coalition of Cleveland Heights and University Heights local independent businesses. A partner of the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA), and of FutureHeights who provides technical support, HIBA's mission is encourage local purchasing to keep our economy strong. They are looking to increase their membership and recruit volunteer support to help them grow. Check them out here.
