Re-Imagining Severance Forum

FutureHeights held Re-Imagining Severance, a public forum to present and discuss the future possibilities of Severance Town Center, a 136 acre site in the center of Cleveland Heights. More than 170 people attended the event on Oct. 21, which was the second in a series of forums held as part of FutureHeights’s Community Capacity-Building Program.

Mark Chupp, an assistant professor at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University and chair of the FutureHeights Civic Engagement Committee, moderated the event. Bob Brown, former planning director for the City of Cleveland, and Rebecca Price, a lawyer and member of the Civic Engagement Committee, presented the current status of the property. Vince Reddy, a project manager at LAND studio, talked about the property’s history. Roger Bliss, a developer and Cleveland Heights resident, presented several examples of redeveloped malls from around the country. Bob Brown shared a Severance Master Plan Update created in 2007 by Kent State University’s Urban Design Collaborative and thoughts about Severance that Cleveland Heights residents had shared on the Next Door website. Peter Rubin, developer of the Courtyards at Severance, shared his thoughts about potential futures for the property.
